What Therapy/counselling and Medication Should I Expect to Have?

Question by Trevor: What therapy/counselling and medication should i expect to have?
I have recently been to see the local community mental health team and they said I am defiantly suffering from ocd, intrusive thoughts, anxiety, panic attacks and could be depressed and suffering post-traumatic stress.
It was my first meeting so of course I will have to go back to find out definitely what is wrong with me.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what to expect in the way of therapy/counselling and medication for those conditions.

Also I was wondering if I get offered medication should go for that option?
As I have done some research and seen a lot of negative things about certain medication.

I started smoking cannabis when I was 11 years old till fifteen and then swapped it to drinking alcohol every day and became an alcoholic. I was drinking every day for 8 years. I was self-medicating, I know alcohol does not help but my head was in a real bad way from seeing some traumatic things like close family members and friends dying in horrible ways also I was attacked many times in that period (I have been stabbed 3 times) I have been to an alcohol detox and rehab and have been alcohol and drug free for 6 months now (I’m 23 years old) and I was thinking will I just get better in time and do I need medication?

As I have stopped so many of my compulsions from my ocd and even though I feel pretty bad most days I am certainly feeling better than when I was drinking. I have been feeling suicidal on and off for years but I am still feeling like that now because I’m getting disheartened as I feel I will never get better.

If someone could (I know they can’t but) give me a date when I would be feeling a lot better then I would have something to aim for and keep going till then.

I don’t think I would actully kill myself as I still have hope for getting better and have a lot to live for it’s the intrusive thoughts that really get me down as I feel so bad for having them I’ve had them for 8 years and only just got help for them.

I have anxiety and depression the road ahead isnt easy but with medical support you can do it! Ive been on a lot of meds for it. Some have worked others haven’t. Speak your mind when it comes to that (celexa made me suicdal) there all very different. But as long as you try to keep the bad thoughts out thats all you can do.
Keep It one day at a time
